About Us

Our Mission

To produce great tasting confectionery products using our homemade recipes, ingredients, and traditional cooking methods.

McJak Candy Company is a family-owned candy factory located in Medina, Ohio. Founded in 1982 in the kitchens of Karen McCurdy and Bill Lonjak, we pride ourselves on producing high quality, homemade candies for fundraising and retail. We’re proud to offer a wide selection of delicious treats ranging from home-style fudge to delicious toffee, from cotton candy to gourmet lollipops — all made one batch at a time.

Our History

In 1981, entrepreneur Karen McCurdy used treasured family recipes to make lollipops in her home kitchen and sell them at local markets. As demand for the treats began to grow, her neighbor Sue Lonjak started helping, and the two women along with their husbands formed M. L. McJak Corporation in April 1982.

A year later, the team rented a small building to allow larger scale production using copper kettles over burners. McJak continued to expand and began selling lollipops to fundraising groups to help them raise money. Customers loved the lollipops so much that they requested the team broaden into other types of candy. McJak was happy to oblige and started making fudge and other treats with their secret family recipes.

In 1992, a new candy factory was built to accommodate the need for more space and more production. In 2000, the founding partners retired and sold their business to Larry and Francine Johns with a promise that they would continue with the principles the company was built on: making top quality confectionary products at a fair price.

In 2009, McJak Candy Company partnered with Warner Brothers to produce a special box of fudge with a famous line from the movie A Christmas Story on the packaging—"Ohh...FFFFudge!!"

The McJak Candy Company facility and products have been featured on CNN, the Today Show, The Food Channel, and numerous publications, such as Playboy magazine. In 2012, McJak earned and maintains Level 2 certification against the Safe Quality Food (SQF) program. This certification is recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative, retailers, and foodservice providers around the world as a credible food safety control and management. All products are made in the family-owned candy factory in Medina, Ohio, and the milk and butter used in the fudge come from cows that are happy to call Ohio dairy farms their homes. McJak Candy Company believes in giving back to the community, and donates thousands of lollipops and other products to local charities and the food bank each year.
